Build Your Future with GBA

Know your way around a survey site? Enjoy leading a crew? Let's talk.

At GBA, we're looking for a Party Chief who brings strong surveying experience, takes pride in accurate work, and knows how to keep field operations running smoothly.

You'll lead and work alongside a survey crew, collecting field data, operating equipment, solving problems, and making sure work is completed safely and accurately. You'll work closely with project managers and office teams to keep projects moving while providing guidance and support to your crew.

If you enjoy being out in the field, taking ownership of your work, and being the person others count on to get the job done right, this could be a great next step.

How You'll Make an Impact

  • Lead the crew. Direct and support daily field survey operations, coordinate assignments, and keep your team working safely and efficiently.

  • Get the details right. Perform field surveys, collect accurate data, and make sure work meets project requirements and industry standards.

  • Know your equipment. Operate, maintain, and calibrate survey instruments and data collection software to keep equipment accurate and ready for use.

  • Solve problems in the field. Identify discrepancies, troubleshoot technical challenges, and make adjustments to keep work moving.

  • Keep safety first. Monitor site conditions, recognize potential hazards, and make sure your crew follows established safety procedures.

  • Stay connected. Coordinate field activities and communicate progress, updates, and challenges with project managers and office staff.

  • Maintain quality records. Keep field notes, sketches, equipment maintenance documentation, and survey data accurate, complete, and organized.

  • Share what you know. Provide hands-on guidance to crew members, reinforce best practices, and help maintain consistent quality across projects.

Perform other duties as assigned.

What You'll Bring

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent, plus 5+ years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • 2+ years of field experience.

Technical Skills & Abilities

  • Advanced knowledge of surveying principles, field instruments, data collection tools, and software.

  • Ability to interpret engineering, construction, and survey plans.

  • Experience planning, coordinating, and completing complex field surveys independently.

  • Strong mathematical skills for field calculations, troubleshooting, and problem-solving.

  • Ability to guide field crews, support quality control, and maintain consistent survey standards.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to coordinate effectively with field and office teams.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining reliability and punctuality.

  • Commitment to continued technical development and pursuing relevant certifications.

What Will Help You Thrive

You're someone who enjoys being hands-on, solving problems, and taking pride in quality work.

You're comfortable leading a crew, making decisions in the field, and keeping things moving when challenges come up.

Most importantly, you value safety, accuracy, and teamwork, and enjoy sharing your experience to help others succeed.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

  • Ability to work on a computer for extended periods.

  • Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods.

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds at times.

  • Ability to climb ladders, scaffolding, and stairs.

  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, precipitation, and wind.

  • Ability to work in environments with high noise levels and potential confined spaces.

  • Use of required safety equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE).

Travel

  • Ability to travel as needed for project site visits, fieldwork, conferences, training, and professional activities.

  • Occasional local day trips or overnight travel may be required, including travel to other GBA offices.

  • Must maintain a valid driver's license and an insurable driving record under the company's insurance carrier requirements to operate or rent vehicles for business purposes.
